Femme Bar advertises itself as a queer women's bar, but welcomes a wide audience of "all LGBTQIA+ Community and their friends," according to the bar's Facebook page.
The queer bar will inhabit the building that previously held Buck’s Whiskey and Burger Bar at 62 Green Street, according to Worcester Magazine. Events, hosted and performed by LGBTQIA+ people, will include drag shows, live music, and game nights.
"I think sometimes when you are young and trying to figure it out, you don't necessarily want to go to a bar and get hit on by men all night," Julie Spring, who co-owns the bar with her wife Danielle Spring, said to Worcester Magazine. "I'm excited to be a part of something that I intend to be a safe space."
Julie and her wife decided that Worcester needed a lesbian bar after visiting a few such venues in New York and realizing that New England had limited offerings for queer women, according to MassLive.
“I just never had that space where I felt like I could go and feel amazing,” Julie said to MassLive. “I felt it before in (Provincetown) and places like that, but when we went and visited the lesbian bars, the feeling is just different.”
Femme Bar is set to open on Thursday, Feb. 9, according to Worcester Magazine.
