I think she was Laura’s sister. She worked at General Hospital. She was a close friend of the one that plays Bobbi Spencer.

That’s a good question. Last I saw her she was a nurse and then she just wasn’t there anymore.

Laura was raised by the Vinings and when Amy was born, she was considered Laura’s little sister. Leslie finally tracked down Laura and reclaimed her. Amy then left the Vinings and went to live with Leslie and Rick Webber. Laura and Amy did consider themselves sisters, however. Shell Kepler was on contract until the turn of the century, and then she went to recurring. I’m not sure when she stopped making appearances. By the time she went to recurring, she had almost no air time anyway and was usually only seen in full cast scenes, like the Nurses Ball, the Christmas Party in the children’s ward, weddings, funerals.

Shell Kepler’s (the actress who portrayed Amy Vining) contract expired in 2000, and she went from regular to recurring status. Her screen time became less and less. And sadly Shell Kepler died from kidney failure on February 1, 2008.

The original actress who played Laura’s sister passed away. She was a sweet person even though she was kind of gossipy and a busy body. Unlike the Amy who is now and then on today’s show who is annoying, who seems to enjoy gossiping in a nasty way and just seems to get an evil look on her face when she finds out something about people, not a nice person. Her nastiness even ruined what could have been a good relationship with her brother and Terri. And I hope she never comes back.

amy vining was the ORIGINAL amy (and laura spencers sister) that our current amy is a tribute to her…amy vining was played by shell kepler and the actress died young at the age of 48 of kidney failure.

The actress who portrayed her passed away a few years ago, but I do not know how the character left the canvas. She was the original Amy.

Amy’s gossiping got a lot of people in trouble at times, so I don’t know if she was all that sweet. I guess she tried to be. She didn’t have too many major storylines, probably the biggest one was when she was a girlfriend to Johnny the boxer. I thought she was the best looking person on the show back when I was in my late teens.

She disappeared after Christmas one year. Amy was basically around for exposition purposes. She kept us updated on what was happening without it feeling like a recap. After she was gone there weren’t too many folks around to miss her. Laura was catatonic. Bobbie and Audrey were barely on screen by then. When Lucy returned for the revived Nurse’s Ball they acknowledged Amy’s death. And Laura has since mentioned it on occasion but no details have been revealed.

The nurse ‘Amy Vining’ was very noisy and often manned the nurse’s station to easvedrop on everyone’s conversations.! She knew about everyone in town. Shell Kepler, the actress that played her for 23 years, played the busy-body nurse like no other! Sadly, the actress passed away much too young. As I remember she left town to go take care of an ailing family member and never returned- it was written that she decided to stay with aunt and her character was quietly written out of the script. Amy Vining would make me laugh, she was sooooo gossipy, she just could not help it, a lot of the times she would tell people’s business because she truly thought that she was helping out the person seeking information. That is when GH writers were on ‘fire’ and could have multiple stories going on at one time, that made sense and with and ENDING!

She died in real life and on the show. Can’t remember how she died. Last time I saw her on the show, she was getting a breast reduction.

I think the actress died and they just stopped mentioning her. I think the other nurse is a modified version of her.

The new Amy (Driscoll - although not so new now) was an homage to Amy Vining, with her gossiping ways. When Bobbie first encountered her at GH, she heard someone calling for Nurse Amy and she did a double take, but then realized who they meant and you could see the heartbreak.
