Wallauer's, which has been owned and operated by the Duncan family for more than 90 years, held a ribbon cutting Friday afternoon to celebrate the new department.

Gene Ceccarelli, a member of the Port Chester board of trustees, said he was excited about the growth of businesses such as Wallauer's in the village.

"I'm happy to have Wallauer's as a member of the business family of Port Chester," he said at the celebration.

Wallauer’s headquarters are in North White Plains at 30 Virginia Road. There are also stores in Ossining, Yonkers, Mahopac, Yorktown Heights, Scarsdale, Bedford Hills, Carmel and Mohegan Lake. The White Plains, Bedford Hills and Carmel stores all have ACE Hardware departments.

Wallauer’s first store opened in 1921 as a paint and wallpaper store owned by Clarence R. Wallauer. Wallauer’s is a family business that caters to do-it-yourselfers and contractors.

George Petre, Wallauer's Corporate Controller, said this new expansion resulted in three new job positions at the Port Chester store.

"People want to shop locally and support family owned business like Wallauer's," he said.

To celebrate the expansion, the store will offer special grand opening sales all weekend at its Port Chester location.

On Friday, the store is offering $5 off purchases of $25 or more of regular merchandise. On Saturday, there will be 20 percent off anything that fits in an ACE paper bag and on Sunday there will be 50 percent off any one regular priced item under $30.
