The Girl From Plainville: Who Is Susie Pierce?
Susie Pierce is one of the characters on Hulu’s The Girl From Plainville. The show, if you haven’t already known, is a true-crime series which is that depiction of the 2014 death of Conrad Roy III. Later on, his “girlfriend” police arrested Michelle Carter and later convicted her of involuntary manslaughter.
But besides Conrad, Michelle also texted with a girl named Susie.
According to the show, both outsiders in their school, Susie and Michelle forged a friendship with each other after meeting in a softball tournament. However, they suddenly drift apart from each other.
In the show, actress Pearl Amanda Dickson from “Lucy in the Sky” portrays the role of Susie Pierce.
Is Susie Pierce A Real Person?
No, Susie Pierce isn’t the real person. Michelle’s friend Alice Felzmann is the person most people believe the character Susie is based on. But, Susie could partially be based on Olivia “Livy” Mosolgo, Michelle’s softball teammate.
Esquire did a detailed investigation in 2017 regarding the Michelle Carter case. According to their report, Alice hailed from Bellingham, Massachusetts. Alice and Michelle met in 2012 (in a softball game) while they were playing on a traveling softball team.
It happened after Conrad met Michelle in Florida when they were visiting their family members.
Two girls became inseparable soon after. While traveling to Montreal they separated from their respective group and had dinner together. Alice thought that Carter was “funny and kind.” Alice’s mother Kelly knew about their friendship and pointed out that her daughter was depressed. She told, “I personally think Michelle picked up on that,” and added that didn’t like Michelle because she was “Super nice. No kid is that nice.”
They lived 20 minutes apart from each other. Eventually, they started spending a lot of time together—having sleepovers, going swimming, and sneaking out to play basketball. If they weren’t spending time with each other, they texted each other constantly.
Kelly and her husband disliked how close they were so they seized her cell phone but that didn’t stop the two girls from communicating with each other. However, they connected on Facebook.
Alice’s mother was fed up with their relationship. She felt that Michelle had “latched on” to Alice and told her to cut ties, which she did in the end without giving any heads up to Michelle.
After Alice and Michelle stopped talking, Kelly received an envelope and inside was three pages hand-written letter. Speaking with Esquire, Kelly confirmed that the content of the letter sounded more like a love letter. Journalist Jesse Barron who did the Esquire article had wondered if there were more to their relationship than just friendship.
Esquire requested a copy of it but Kelly declined.
As previously reported, Michelle had spoken about Alice with Conrad and told him that the whole Alice situation was making her depressed. Some of the texts also pointed toward the romantic direction between the two when she claimed that “Alice was her first kiss”.
Then, a week before Conrad’s tragic death, Michelle texted a classmate, “Do you remember me being best friends with a girl named Alice?” She texted another friend a similar message: “I’m obsessed with her like idk how to stop. Every love song or whatever, it’s her I think about.” To a third friend, she said she was “going through a grieving process” and needed “to get closure.”
In another message, she said, “I thought it was a phase at first like I thought we were just really good friends. But we started talking like a relationship would, flirting and stuff. Like idk if I am bi. I guess because I never had that type of relationship with another girl to really tell.”
On the contrary, Alice’s mother Kelly shared that the girls never had a physical relationship. Alice confirmed to Esquire that she had no feelings watching her former best friend on a trial.
