Southport Brewing Company Closes Doors On Hometown Location

The restaurant closed permanently on June 29, said a post from June 30.

"We thank you for your support, loyalty, and kindness," the post said. "We will miss the many friends and great memories we've made together over the years. Thank you for being wonderful guests!"

The namesake location was known for its set-up in the restaurant for brewing beer. The milling, mashing, boiling, cooling, fermenting, conditioning and filtering, dispensing and — of course — drinking, all happened right on the spot.

Fans on Facebook lamented the closing.

"An original. Honest and authentic. A breakthrough brewery that understood that people may come for the beer but they come back because of the food," said a post from Bob Abbate Marketing.

Another post just said "bummer!" while another chimed in with "I'll miss you boys."

Another fan said, "Say it ain't so! The end of an era...you boys rocked it!"

One person summed it all up with a crying face emoji.

Another location of the SBC Restaurant and Brewery remains open in Milford (and it formerly had a location in downtown Stamford). The SBC owners also operate Local Kitchen & Beer Bar in Fairfield and in South Norwalk and The Sitting Duck Tavern in Stratford and Trumbull.
