UNIVERSITY PARK -- Alex Frederick, the former president of the Interfraternity Council at Penn State University, has stepped down, along with other executive officers from the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, after the death of Penn State student Timothy Piazza.

The council released the following statement through the vice president of communications, Michael Cavallaro:

“Interfraternity Council executive officers of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity have stepped down from their positions on the Interfraternity Council executive board. It was the opinion of those officers that their credibility was compromised and would not be in the best interest of the Interfraternity Council to continue their term."

"The Interfraternity Council chapter presidents voted Dean Vetere, of Sigma Phi Epsilon, a current executive board member, to fill the position of president for the remainder of the term. Dean moving from executive vice president to president left a vacancy, which will be filled by Blake Friedman, a member of the Beta Sigma Beta fraternity.”

The Interfraternity Council has not provided specific details into what caused them to resign.
