PA lawmaker proposes ending Sunday hunting ban

July 2024 · 1 minute read

One Pennsylvania lawmaker has proposed new legislation that would end the Sunday hunting ban in the state.

According to a memo sponsored by Rep. Mandy Steele (D-Allegheny County), the legislation would repeal the state's prohibition on Sunday hunting and would give the Game Commission the authority to "decide when and how Sunday hunting is permitted."

Hunting in PA is a family tradition, an economic powerhouse, and helps preserve our forests for generations to come. It’s time to give Hunters more choices and end the ban on Sunday Hunting.

In late 2019, then Governor Tom Wolf signed Act 107 into law, which gave the Game Commission permission to designate three Sundays per year for hunting. That law then took effect in 2020.

If passed, this newly proposed legislation would end that limitation and give the state's Game Commission the authority to allow hunters to hunt on any given day during hunting season.

Rep. Steele noted in the memo that other states have recently lifted their Sunday hunting bans and have allegedly reported no negative impacts on their deer populations.

The proposal has been submitted to the state House of Representatives for further consideration.
