DUBOIS, Pa. - Clearfield County's first medical marijuana dispensary opened its doors Monday in DuBois.

Grassroots Cannabis, an Illinois-based medical cannabis company with licensed business operations in six states and growing, opened a new Herbology medical cannabis dispensary on South Brady Street.

More than 40 patients stopped by the dispensary Monday.

The company’s Herbology medical cannabis dispensaries serve patients with cannabis products, including flower, ingestible and topicals, cannabidiol (CBD) products, concentrates, oil vape cartridges and disposable vape pens.

"For most people, there aren't many locations in Pennsylvania and DuBois is a nice centralized area," said Ian Gibbs, Outreach and Marketing Manager for Grassroots Cannabis.

Officials said the cannabis products come from Cresco Yeltrah's marijuana cultivation facility in Brookville.

"Now that we have a dispensary closer in my area it's a godsend," patient Jason Martinez said.

Martinez uses medical cannabis to alleviate symptoms related to his blood cancer. He no longer must drive to Butler for his prescriptions.

"Since last February, each time I go and get blood tested my numbers have been falling and falling," Martinez said. "I used to have to see my cancer doctor every 30 days for blood work and bone marrow biopsies, now I'm down to every six months."

Patient Bernie Savoia also said the DuBois location is more convenient. Savoia was traveling to State College for his prescriptions.

"It's a relief," Savoia said. "I feel wonderful. I've been waiting for a closer dispensary, we never thought it would come true."

Savoia said he's working with Herbology to find the right strain to treat his osteoarthritis and spinal stenosis.

"Medical marijuana is just a wonderful, wonderful thing and I couldn't be much more thankful than this," Savoia said.

The DuBois location is the fourth Herbology location nationwide.

Officials said a dispensary will also be opening in Altoona soon.
