Justin Timberlake debuted a new look this week, stepping out with a full beard. The newly engaged star was entertaining techies at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas (where another Justin will promote a robot company today). Timberlake he was on hand to discuss his plans for MySpace's revival. What does 'The Social Network' star have in store for this social network?
Timberlake, MySpace's creative director and co-owner, unveiled a plan for MySpace TV. According to Rolling Stone, the innovative idea will be a social TV service for Panasonic televisions. "We're ready to take television and entertainment to the next step by upgrading it to the social networking experience," Timberlake said in a Panasonic press conference. "Why text or email your friends to talk about your favorite programs after they've aired when you could be sharing the experience with real-time interactivity from anywhere across the globe?"
What exactly does he mean? MySpace TV will allow for instant communication between users while they watch their favorite music videos and listen to the service's 42 million songs. Down the line, the network will also incorporate sports channels and reality TV into its lineup. Said Timberlake, "As the plot of your favorite drama unfolds, the joke of your favorite 'SNL' character plays or even the last-second shot of your favorite team swishes the net, we're giving you the opportunity to connect your friends to your moments as they're actually occurring. This is the evolution of one of our greatest inventions, the television."
"The future of MySpace is about what you’re going to do," Timberlake said. "About who you’re going to become. MySpace TV is the first foray into that future."
