CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — This holiday season doesn’t come without worry, not just of health and safety but for some parents the ability to get their child a gift.
Bike shop Hope Cyclery in Downtown Johnstown is back again with their second annual holiday bike drive, to give kids in need a free bike. But shop co-owner Jarrod Bunk says a bike is much more than that, it’s an experience.
“We believe wholeheartedly that bikes are magic you know you think about growing up and what is the one thing that we all remember? It’s your first time on a bike,” said Hope Cyclery co-owner Jarrod Bunk.
Bunk says nearly 70 bikes have been donated this year that him and co-owner David Lane hope to turn into refurbished bikes for kids in the area. Two people to take on the task will be hard but Bunk says they’re up to the challenge.
“We believe 100% this is how we exist as a bike shop. Every child deserves a bike regardless of social class because they are magic,” said Bunk.
This act of giving back is one Bunk says they wouldn’t be able to do without the community’s continuous support of their shop. Now Bunk says they need the community to nominate kids they believe need a bike, which will be available for kids ages five and older.
To nominate someone for a bike Bunk asks that you email them at HOPE@HOPECYCLERY.COM with the child’s name, age, height and bike color or style preference.
