He then added: "But the reason to leave is: we’re a long way from home, you know, in Los Angeles, and there are people at home who are getting older, and we want our kids to know them and be around them. In a show opening monologue, he added: "When I started this journey, it was always going to be just that. It was going to be a journey, an adventure. I never saw it as my final destination, you know? And I never want this show to overstay its welcome in any way. I always want to love making it."

The actor and writer had previously spoken about his family regarding his job, telling the podcast Smartless that he had "an overwhelming feeling that my family has walked to the beat of my drum for a very long time". He added that he would end his time on the show for "people who we miss very very much who we are homesick for".

James Corden's recent controversy

The presenter has also been in a centre of some controversies over the past couple of years, including a restauranteur claiming that he was banned from the NYC eatery Balthazar after being rude to the waiting staff. After the situation went viral, James explained his perspective, saying: "Because I didn't shout or scream, I didn't get up out of my seat, I didn't call anyone names or use derogatory language, I've been walking around thinking that I haven't done anything wrong.

"But the truth is I have made a rude, rude comment. And it was wrong. It was an unnecessary comment, it was ungracious to the server."
