PHILADELPHIA (CelebrityAccess) Comcast-Spectacor and The Cordish Companies have announced plans to build a $50 million esports and entertainment venue at the Philadelphia Sports Complex in South Philly.
The 60,000-square-foot building, named Fusion Arena, will be adjacent to the Xfinity Live! entertainment center and will be the largest new-construction, purpose-built esports arena in the Western Hemisphere, according to a statement from Comcast and Cordish. It will be home to the Fusion esports team.
“The Fusion will play their matches there for the 2021 season and it’s expected to open early 2021,” Comcast Spectacor told 6abc.com.
It will serve as an arena for gaming events and live entertainment programming and a 6,000-square-foot public entry will greet guests as they enter the space and “includes 2,000 square feet of interactive media surface hovering 30 feet above them.”
“Fusion Arena gives esports fans a best-in-class venue to call home and be proud of. Beyond competitive gaming, it’s a stunning facility that will host a wide array of events,” said Dave Scott, Chairman and CEO, Comcast Spectacor.
The arena is designed by Populous and construction is expected to begin this summer.
The Fusion are currently in third place in the Overwatch League.
