There are still plans to bring Downtown Yogurt to Johnstown, but it likely still will not be for a while after they had to change plans, now working on several other properties in the area.
A first taste for the frozen yogurt and ice cream shop was held in July 2022 with expectations that the store would open shortly after.
There are two parts to the company according to Johnstown Capital Partners.
One is business based like Downtown Yogurt, which they already have two locations open in New York and New Jersey.
But the other part of the business is turning properties into residential spaces and renting them according to the company CEO LaQuan Marshall.
He said building residential spots in the area before moving to businesses is usually the way the company works, but they originally planned for Downtown Yogurt to open first this time.
But plans changed after the company did not receive funding from the city that they had hoped for.
Marshall did not specifically say how many properties the company has in Johnstown, but said it is "quite a few," in several parts of town. He said they are working on making many of those apartments.
There are floors above the yogurt shop that they also plan to turn into apartments according to Marshall.
They expect all those projects could be done by the end of the year, and when those are finished is when they could resume work at Downtown Yogurt.
He gives a possible estimate for opening the shop of next spring, but Marshall said that he cannot commit to a clear timeline.
