HOUTZDALE, Pa. (WJAC) — A southern Clearfield County correctional institution is on a limited lockdown Friday after officials said an inmate assaulted and seriously injured a corrections officer Thursday night.
Department of Corrections officials said the State Correctional Institution at Houtzdale will remain on limited lockdown as staff investigate the incident.
Officials said the assault happened in the housing unit pod.
Authorities said the corrections officer who was assaulted required emergency treatment outside the institution and is now in stable condition.
The inmate has been transferred to another facility.
“SCI Houtzdale and the Department of Corrections take assaults seriously and will work to determine how it happened and how we can work to prevent incidents such as this in the future,” said Barry Smith, superintendent of the State Correctional Institution at Houtzdale.
