BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. — Amtran will be extending operating hours on their existing routes beginning this June as well as adding a new route that extends to Bellwood and Tyrone, according to Amtran CEO Josh Baker.
According to Baker, Amtran implemented a Transit Development Plan that began in 2021 and ended in late 2022 that focused on analyzing current service efficiencies and potential growth opportunities and that they continue to develop short, mid and long term plans that derive from the development plan.
Baker says that Phase I implementation is set to begin June 5th of this year where they will increase the hours of operation on existing routes from ending between 5:30-6 p.m. to 8:30-9 p.m.
Additionally, Baker says, a Saturday-only route has been added that will provide transportation to Bellwood and Tyrone.
The Saturday-only route will depart from the Bellmeade Martin's and travel through Bellwood and Tyrone before coming back to the Bellmeade Martin's, connecting the existing Greenwood route.
Baker says the enhancements are being conducted on a pilot basis and are being funded through reserves, with Amtran Board of Directors approving the enhancements and Tyrone and Bellwood borough managers supporting them.
According to Baker, Amtran will monitor ridership trends to see if a long-term implementation is feasible.
