Alan Eugene Jackson was born on October 17, 1958, in Newnan, Georgia, to Ruth Musick and Joseph Eugene Jackson. He was raised alongside 4 older siblings. He was educated at Elm Street Elementary after which he attended Newnan High School located in Coweta County, Georgia. Young Alan joined his church choir at a very young age, where he developed an interest in gospel music. At the end of his studies, he created a music group, but it was not successful.
In 1985, Alan Jackson moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue a full-time career in music. There he signed for the Nashville arm of Arista Records.
